Adventures in March
S
eems like I've been waiting for March to get here forever!
I've got two local weddings to bookend the month which will be great - and then in the middle, here's what's going down.
On the 11th I'll be flying to Las Vegas to take part in the 'Anti-Workshop' photography workshop. This is put on by the fabulous team of The Boutwells and John and Dalisa Cooper. Totally Rad!
Then, right after that is WPPI where 10,000 photographers from around the globe converge on Vegas for a huge convention and trade show.
And THEN I'm flying straight out of Vegas to El Careyes - Mexico!
Seal and Heidi Klum were married here I guess, as well as Freddie Prinz Jr. and Sarah Michelle Gellar. Come March 22nd you can add Angela and Drake to that list as well, with me as their photographer. I met with Drake tonight so he could give me this giant book about the history of the resort and the mastermind behind it and the book is just ripe with ridiculous photos that simply take my breath away.
So, here's to March and the 3 weddings on the horizon! Here's to March and 2 spectacular conventions/workshops! Here's to March and two cities besides Denver! Here's to March and the first day of Spring! Here's to March and Easter! Here's to March and my daughter's 6th birthday!
Here's to March and photos that will take your breath away!
Hooray March!

Angie and Jonathan - The Engagement
S
ometimes it seems there's just a connection there between me the photographer and the couples I photograph. With Angie and Jonathan that connection runs deep - real deep. You see, he's my brother. And she's going to be my Sister-in-law come July.

We had so much fun this weekend getting some photos done. It was their Christmas present I guess - but really, I'll take photos of them anytime.

[ 0 ]
I think I'm going to abandon the commentary and just show the photos. We got so many great ones I have a ton to show off. So, enjoy!

I'm really looking forward to their wedding and officially welcoming Angie into the Wilson family (though she already feels a part of it).

Congrats guys! See you soon. ;)
PS. Look for Angie and Jonathan on the TV show "First Place" later this year. They've been working on the show lately along with buying their first home and their 'reveal' is being filmed this Saturday!

Oscar Predictions
I
suppose that since I posted my Oscar nomination predictions I should go ahead and predict the winners too!
Remember a couple years ago when the third Lord of the Rings movie won just about everything and it turned into a pretty boring night? (I even remember one person who gave a speech late in the evening who said "I'm just glad Lord of the Rings wasn't nominated in this category"!) I think that tonight will be the night of "No Country for Old Men". It is nominated for 8 awards and I think it will win every award it is nominated for. If it loses anything it might be in sound - I've never seen 'Transformers' but sometimes those lame action movies win in categories like these and special effects... The sound though, in NCFOM, was one of the things that really stood out to me (boots clicking down the hallway, unscrewing a lightbulb!!)
Actor: DDL
Supporting Actor: Javier Bardem
Actress and Supporting Actress: These two are the hardest for me. I think it's a coin flip now between Julie Christie and Ellen Page - I'll say Ellen Page I guess... And I suppose I'll go with Amy Ryan in the supporting category.
Animated: I've changed my mind - Ratatouille will win.
Song: ONCE - YEAHH!!
Score: Atonement - I loved the score in this film! Whenever a typewriter is your main instrument - I mean, how cool is that!?
Documentary: No End In Sight - Really, this film should be required viewing for every American. AND you can watch it for free HERE. (For anyone worried that it's just a bash Bush movie - that's not the case at all.)
Anything else? One contest I entered wanted me to predict how many standing ovations there would be and I said 5. John Stewart, Writers in general, Lifetime achievement award winner, Julie Christie?, and one more random standing O.
What was the best movie you saw this year? (I did watch King of Kong last night - Brilliant! But not as good as Once...)

Falling Slowly
A
little while ago the good people at the Chateaux at Fox Meadows in Broomfield, CO invited me to be a part of their dinner tasting which is being held on Thursday, February 28th at 6pm. If you'd like to hang out with me, meet me, keep me company, take your photograph with me, or get my autograph then come on by. I'm pretty sure it's free and you can just drop in.
If you have no interest in meeting me whatsoever but you would like some free dinner provided by Greenspoint Catering then by all means, come join us! Or if you'd like to meet with any of the following vendors: Colorado Rose Cake Company, Sarah Vogel Thomas Floral Design, Pure Sound, All Digital Photo and Video, RnR Vacations, Kacee's Wine & Spirits, Presidential Limousine Service, Fred Astaire Dance Company, Swept Away Bridal Boutique - then stop by. I mean it's not all about me! But while you're there please do say "Hi" - I love making new friends. :)
Today I was working on a bunch of images that I might display on the wall with a projector while everyone is eating next Thursday night. To show you some of these photos, I've made a little slideshow to the tune of Falling Slowly from the soundtrack of the movie "Once". I think this movie might be my favorite of 2007 although I just rented "The King of Kong" to watch this weekend and so that could change things... But this song here is nominated for the Academy Award for Best Song and I'm really hoping it wins! I'm sure hoping they perform it live this Sunday night.
So, anyway, here are some awesome photos, put to some awesome music, and I think it would go just great with a nice Red Wine and some Steak Diane... Enjoy!

Wedding at the Donovan Pavilion Vail - Kerri and Zane
F
or two years he thought he was living next to an old woman with a hundred cats. Then one day some apartment malfunction led Kerri to wander outside her home for an extended time and it was in these moments that Zane first saw her and thought to himself, "Wow, my neighbor has a beautiful daughter!" Turns out Kerri was his neighbor and they'd been living right next door to each other all this time. For two years the love of their life was just one door down.
[ 0 ]
Well, they met. They went out. And the rest is history.
Thankfully Zane's neighbor wasn't an old woman with cats, but his beautiful wife Kerri. I think she was pretty happy to meet him, too!

And here they are together enjoying a warm winter day in Vail, Colorado.

They were married at the Donovan Pavilion surrounded by family and friends from all over. And right overhead was this cool wreath...

[ 0 ]
It was a gorgeous ceremony. Here's Kerri.

[ 0 ]
And her sister.

[ 0 ]
And her mother.

[ 0 ]
I probably say every wedding is gorgeous, or beautiful, etc. But this one was extra special. I just loved it - and I think at one time (or two) I looked like Kerri's mother in the photo above. It's truly touching when two people are so in love and can make each other so obviously happy. Kerri and Zane are two unique souls who, from this day forward, will be able to march on and touch the lives of others together. And that is a beautiful thing to see.

[ 0 ]
Of course there was cake.

[ 0 ]
And flowers.

[ 0 ]
And a veil.

[ 0 ]

[ 0 ]
And a ring.

[ 0 ]
And a kiss.

[ 0 ]
Or two.

[ 0 ]
And dancing.

[ 0 ]
Congratulations guys! I hope that today - and every day - you will find warmth in each other's embrace and your best friend right there by your side.

[ 0 ]
And one day, many years from now, a young man fresh out of college will be hosting a party at his pad and a friend of his will ask, "Have you ever met your neighbors?" And he'll say, "Yeah, just the other day. A really sweet old couple... with like a hundred cats."

Dr. Jaime Medicine Woman
M
y friend Jamie was recently certified as a Diplomate in Oriental Medicine by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine this past November. For a layman like me – she got her Masters in Traditional Chinese Medicine.
[ 0 ]
I've never tried Acupuncture myself, but I hope to change that in the coming weeks or months. I'm pretty sure I'm the kind of guy who would totally love it and do it all the time.

[ 0 ]

[ 0 ]
Not only does she do acupuncture and herbal medicines, but I know one thing that she loves doing is ‘Shoshin’ which is non-insertive Pediatric Acupuncture. For a layman like me that means – she doesn’t stick needles in your kids.

These kids really seemed to love it.

Honeymooning in Fallujah
I
just got this email from Melissa and Glen, whose wedding I just photographed on December 30th. I thought I'd share it with the world...
Hello!
We just wanted to send out an email to all our friends and family before we go! As you all know, Glen and I are leaving this week for Iraq! We are excited to go and do our part once again to help out those less fortunate than ourselves! Our last deployment to Fallujah was a fantastic experience. We really felt very appreciated and that we were making a difference out there. Despite what the news shows, most Iraqis are happy that we are there helping them. We are building schools, a new government and ensuring the safety of their families for hopefully many years to come. It is an indescribable feeling to have Iraqi women hand you their babies because they want you to take your picture with them; or to give you candy and other gifts as they come through your checkpoint!
Anyways, we wanted to tell everyone goodbye for now...we'll be back soon! Seven months will go by and before we know it, we'll be on US soil again! We love you all very much and hope to hear from you while we're gone! We LOVE to get mail...letters, packages, ANYTHING! We're like little kids at Christmas out there when it comes to getting mail!
We love you all and we will see you soon! Please forward this email to anyone we may have missed!
Love,
Glen and Melissa
