Denver Wedding Photography | Christine and Elliott

I
've been looking forward to this Denver Wedding for a long time!

Christine and Elliott... After meeting them last fall, and then photographing their Denver engagement session, their engagement party, rehearsal dinner, and finally their wedding, I feel like their smiles and sweet spirits are forever etched in my memory. They are the perfect compliment to one another and it's plain for all to see. Even they knew it right from the start, when, shortly after meeting each other, Christine took the bold move of moving from Colorado to Tennessee so that they could give their budding relationship a chance. But whoever said that was a risk? They always knew it would be forever.

Christine's Vera Wang gown, with layers of detail, was one of the most beautiful I've ever seen.

My second photographer for the day, Kevin Von Qualen, captured this image just moments before Christine walked down the aisle.

Always one of my favorite shots of a wedding... 'Just Married!'

One of my favorite quotes from the weekend was at the rehearsal dinner when one of Elliott's friends said: "You might have heard people talk about getting reacquainted with 'old friends'... Well, Elliott never does that. He doesn't have 'old friends'. He just stays in touch with all of his friends over the years."

I have so much respect for that and at the wedding you could see the evidence of maintaining those connections. A true picture of friendship.

The reception at the Ritz Carlton was beyond words. Big kudos to Faye Gardenschwartz for putting it all together, Newberry Brothers for the flowers, and Jerry Barnett for the entertainment. (Two jaw dropping moments: walking into their reception at the Ritz Carlton and seeing the work of Faye and Newberry's, and then, when Jerry Barnett and Co. pulled off their live rendition of 'I've Got a Feelin' by the Black Eyed Peas. BRILLIANT!)

Denver Wedding Sneak Peek

A
t this moment I'm enjoying going through all of the images from Saturday's wedding in Denver, Colorado and I just had to share one photo with you as a little teaser! You may remember Christine and Elliott from their engagement session in Denver just a few months ago. Their wedding Saturday, with the Ceremony at the amazing Holy Ghost Church downtown, and reception at the Ritz Carlton, was breathtaking. Elliott looked great, and Christine... radiant. I can't wait to share more!

Denver Engagement Photography | Dani and Pat

A
dmittedly, it's been a little while since I've been out for a session. I think all of us (that's me and my clients) are eagerly anticipating spring being 'just around the corner' and we've all been waiting, waiting, for things to turn green again and for the sun to give us the warmth we haven't had for a few months.

Thankfully, that warmth is here and this last weekend we (that's me, Dani, and Pat) were able to venture out and enjoy it! It was so fun to go out again and photograph this beautiful couple and get to know them a little bit in the process. They live very near the Commons Park area in downtown Denver and so that was a natural choice for us to meet up there and walk around and take some photos.

Dani and Pat met at CSU and are now enjoying life in the heart of Denver. Their wedding is this August in Beaver Creek and anticipating that they would get lots of awesome mountain top images (YES!) they wanted something a bit more urban for this little session.

This was a few seconds after my friend James rode by on his bicycle and yelled out 'Jared!' Then, realizing I was busy, he just waived and said 'I won't bother you' and rode away. Thanks James - good to see you! And here's what we were capturing when you so rudely interrupted. (Kidding! :)

Dani and Pat introduced me to 'Little Man Ice Cream'. I can't believe I've never seen this place before!! I didn't get to sample any of their treats, but I plan to return - and soon! Dani and Pat walk or ride their bikes here on occasion and I'm sure this photo will be special for them.

Makin' My Monday! (The Inspiration Edition)

O
nce upon a time I was a blogaholic. I mean I'd read tons of blogs out there, mostly wedding photography related, and it consumed quite a bit of my time. Now, I'm finding I simply don't have the time to keep up with it all.

What's even more significant is that I feel I've come to a point where I don't want to read all of those blogs because I don't want to find myself engulfed in a 'sea of sameness' - that's just not where I want to be. And so the more I pull away, the more I find myself finding my own voice and exploring my own style - and enjoying the exploration of the creative art of photography vs. trying to duplicate or reproduce...

I still follow a few photographers out there - a couple who inspire me, but mostly those who I have some sort of connection with. Perhaps they're local, and/or they're friends, or something along those lines.

Now - all of that being said - I DO find myself, time and time again, turning to a new source of inspiration. It shows up in my mailbox every month, and over and over again I am blown away by what I see. It speaks to me. Not in a profound way. But like it's speaking my language. I understand it. And if it had a brain, it would understand me. And (sticking with the language metaphor here) sometimes it teaches me new words. And I find myself gratefully inspired.

I'm talking, of course, about the Anthropologie and Urban Outfitters catalogs!

Urban Outfitters

The thing is - it all starts with the photographers whose work graces these pages. And sometimes, if I see a particularly creative shoot appear in the catalog I'll dig a little deeper and go visit the site of the photographer who created it. Often I'm inspired even more when I peruse their work. I'm sure there are designers who help conceptualize things, and sometimes there's probably a whole crew helping to pull it off... And other times there are shoots that are so simple and beautiful and quiet...

What I love is that I'm inspired not to duplicate or 'be the same as' - but I find myself saying 'yeah, that's so ME!' and I find confirmation that I'm not the only one who thinks such things, or enjoys such forms of expression. Often I'm amazed at the rules I see 'broken' in the work and I'm encouraged to deconstruct what I've been taught and follow the path of my heart when it comes to creating art. Not to 'be like them'... but because they are like me... and they're speaking to me through their images, saying 'It's ok to be this way!'

Someday I'll do a photoshoot for anthropologie or urban outfitters. I think it would be a perfect fit.

If you would like a monthly double dose of inspiration you can follow these links to order the anthropologie catalog and the urban outfitter catalog.

Thank you anthropologie and urban outfitters for Makin' My Monday (or, whichever day you decide to show up in my mailbox!)

Flushmount Wedding Album Design

W
ow! I've been finalizing a lot of wedding albums here recently. And it's so fun!
Reliving these moments and seeing it all come together in true storybook fashion....

I thought I'd share one with you today just so you can see what Flushmount Wedding Albums look like here at Jared Wilson Photography.

Reagan and Chris finalized their album of their wedding at the Four Seasons in Punta Mita, Mexico just the other day and I'm dying to get it in my hands and see it in real life!

If you'd like to see their finalized design, start the show!

Memories of Mexico

A
lright, for today's post, things are going to get personal...

I apologize for back to back posts featuring my daughter but March was a very special month for her, me, and our family. Right after she turned 8 she jumped on a bus with me for a 24 hour drive down to Mexico to build a house for a wonderful family who needed it. Here's Rose on the bus the first day...

On Day 1 she worked fairly hard for an 8 year old. She painted all the trim (and herself) and seemed to be having a great time lending a hand wherever she could. I took her little pink digital camera with me, deciding to leave my pro gear at home, and snapped a few photos during the week - mainly of her. :)

Day 2 and she still worked a bit - but she was kinda trailing off - which was totally fine. It was fun watching her play with the other kids there from Colorado as well as some of the local children. I spent a good portion of Day 2 working on the roof as you might be able to tell from this next photo. Rose came up and helped me for a little while. Working on a project this special with my daughter is something I will always treasure.

In the evenings, back at camp, I had a special task. I'm the guy with the guitar in the red sweatshirt and glowing forehead (I had one of those head lamp things...). I led our singalong and worship time around the campfire each evening. It was tough, actually. Mainly because I was so drained from the day's work and had next to nothing left 'in the tank'. After strumming the last chord I was typically in my tent, and tucked into my sleeping bag, within 10 minutes.

I have no idea why I did that.

I love this photo. I think it explains the trip there better than anything else I can think of.

And finally, I'll leave you with this video I put together to share with those at our church this Sunday. Those are my hands you see, and my voice you hear. The song is Sigur Ros, an Icelandic band that sings in 'hopelandic' which is basically an artful form of gibberish. I hope it inspires you.
