Here are two of my most favorite 'getting ready' shots that I've ever taken! That's because they all belong to me and I love them so much!

Angie and Jonathan - Wedding at Lionscrest Manor

O
n July 17th, Angie and Jonathan pledged their love to one another and were married at Lionscrest Manor in Lyons, Colorado.

What makes this one so special for me is that Jonathan is my brother. And now Angie is my sister-in-law!

It was an awesome day where the clouds parted and the rain stopped at just the perfect time and later I heard that an eagle was even soaring in the valley below during the ceremony.

(Personally, I was the most stressed out that I've ever been at a wedding - and that's including the first one I ever shot solo and my own! Fortunately my good friend Kevin Von Qualen helped with the photography coverage. Being brother, Best Man, Father of the Flower Girl and Ring Bearer and photographer, was more than I could do alone. In fact, at least half of these shots were taken by Kevin.)

Let me show you the most beautiful Bride and Groom I've ever photographed (even though Kevin took this particular shot).

The ceremony was wonderful. I'm so happy for the two of them - it was simply a joy watching them get married. In that moment I couldn't have been more proud of my brother.

I still remember the first time we met Angie... My brother is a unique soul, which I'm sure he won't deny, and Emily and I always wondered what kind of special woman would end up marrying him. So the first time we met Angie, as the four of us attempted to catch a screening of Spiderman 3 together, we were simply amazed. We didn't get into the screening and so we parted ways after waiting in line for over an hour together and we all went home. On the way back - well, I wish I had a recording of the conversation between my wife and I. Numerous comments like "Wow, she's amazing!" And "How did he get her!" Yeah, my brother is one lucky guy. A thought that I'm sure he reminds himself of daily.

Then it was inside for the reception. My father provided the party favors... Growing up it seemed that my Dad always had a hobby, though that hobby often changed. When we were very young it was rebuilding Saabs, then it was rebuilding boats, then it was fishing, somewhere in there he tinkered with photography, and bluegrass music with his mandolin - but lately, and for quite some time now, his side passion has been raising bees and harvesting Ozark Mountain Honey.

During the ceremony Jonathan had planned for a Butterfly release after they were pronounced Husband and Wife - but someone forgot to get the butterflies out of the refrigerator. So instead we went outside at some point during the reception for a little evening release. Turns out that it was probably a good thing that it didn't happen during the ceremony because the big 'release' was a big dud.

Instead of exploding in a colorful cloud of flying butterflies it was more like all the butterflies dropped out of the box in some sort of refrigerator induced stupor and just kinda sat there. Notice this one on Angie's dress...

Well, I've got another fun post planned in the next couple days that will have a little bit more to do with 'yours truly' thanks to Kevin, as well as the cutest flower girl and ring bearer you ever did see. :)

For now, Congrats Angie and Jonathan! Our family is looking forward to all the years ahead making memories with you and... babysitting on your anniversaries!

Stacey and Eric - Couture Book Sample Slideshow

I'm ordering a new sample of my Couture Italian Toscana album - what I refer to as my 'Old World' album.

If you're a wedding photographer out there I would highly recommend you look into Couture Books. Sure, they're twice as expensive as everything else you'll find, but they're just so amazingly unique! In my opinion, that's worth double the price.

Ordering this new sample I decided to use images from Stacey and Eric's Aspen wedding this past weekend. This particular book features all black and white images, one image per page, and only on the right hand side. Very elegant!

After I finished prepping all the images I decided to throw them all into a slideshow. Enjoy!

Stacey and Eric - Wedding on the Aspen Wedding Deck

"
You couldn't find a location with a view!?" I heard one guest say, jokingly.

Truth be told, there aren't many views better than the Little Nell's wedding deck by the Aspen Mountain Club at the top of Ajax, which made it the perfect place for Stacey and Eric to be wed. But first, there were preparations to be made...

Stacey got ready for the big day at the Little Nell. She had the most amazing Vera Wang gown.

And the gown was so perfectly complemented by these Christian Louboutin shoes that I'm sure the designers must have collaborated.

Meanwhile, right across the street at The Sky Hotel, my new South African photographer friend, Bryan Rowe, was there to document Eric and the boys getting ready.

Stacey, her sister, and her niece, rode the gondola together to the top of the mountain where the wedding was to be held. This photo was taken inside the gondola - you can just make out the Aspens outside sporting their golden leaves.

While they waited at the Aspen Mountain Club for the guests to arrive and the skies to clear, Stacey's son and niece got in a quick game of chess.

And of course, in this perfect place, and on this perfect day, the rain and the wind died down at just the perfect moment for Stacey and Eric to say "I do".

Her son walked her down the aisle.

And then it was time to celebrate with a reception at the Aspen Mountain Club. The crew at the Aspen Mountain Club, along with wedding planners Devin and her assistant Mary, put together a magnificent scene.

Some friends are coming over for dinner...

I
'm starting to get a little bit excited! It feels like I'm about to see some old friends that I haven't seen in awhile, and I really want to know how they are doing. What they've been up to. How life's been treating them. If anything new has happened in their lives lately.

Of course, these friends don't care about me one bit. But I miss them so much!

I'm talking, of course, about the new seasons of my favorite television shows. Here's what I'm looking forward to from 1 to 5.

I might need to turn in my 'man card' on this one - but I'm a sucker for this show! It consistently makes me laugh, and consistently makes me cry. And no other show I've ever seen has had this much power over my emotions. The music is awesome. Dr. Bailey is the best. Meredith and Derek should get married and have babies. I watched last season's finale again last night, and now I'm ready to have these friends over again so they can put my heart through the ringer.

I was talking about this show with a friend just the other day when I mentioned I was a fan. They asked 'But do you still watch LOST'?

Oh yes I do! This show has taken a major turn of late and I have no idea what's going to happen now that some are on the island and some are not. This show has some of the best storytelling of any show, ever, and I'm blown away that they are able to keep it up and keep us glued to the set. Each character feels like a real person, a friend I know full of strengths and weaknesses, joys and struggles, and I'm looking forward to catching up with them.

This is the one reality show that my wife and I both love. And as Emily isn't in to sports all that much (and I am), I also feel like this is the one competition where my wife and I can both sit on the sidelines and cheer. Sometimes we're cheering for the same team and sometimes our favorites are different, but we love it - and I'm happy we can love it together.

And Survivor is a show that I still get all wrapped up in - and my wife still hates. We'll see if Gabon is any good. My least favorite thing about Survivor is when one team gets powerful enough to pick the other team off one by one after the merger - BORING!! I'm always curious to see if the producers can find a way to balance it out, give it a twist, and avoid these boring three or four weeks halfway through the season.

[ 0 ]

And finally - the Office. Emily and I spent this summer watching every episode of seasons 1 through 3 on DVD. And now I am in love with this show! Pam and Jim are awesome, and, well, they're ALL awesome. Unfortunately it's on the same night as Grey's Anatomy and Survivor and LOST, and my TIVO just can't handle all of that at the same time. So this one will have to be viewed online or something. Sure hope they get married and won't Michael make a great father! :)

Thanks friends for keeping in touch - I look forward to seeing you soon. And if the glass wasn't there between us, I'd give you all a hug.

Now, what are YOU looking forward to?

Shameless Self Promotion

Voting for Denver 7's A List ends tomorrow! If you haven't already, please vote for me HERE. And get your neighbor to vote too! Last time I checked I had gone from 2nd down to 7th... :( Leaving the voting open for nearly 2 months seems a bit excessive don't you think?

Really I'm starting to feel like making the top 3 on the A list is kindof a lost cause at this point (until next year!) and so, I'd really love it (if you are a previous client) if you could give me a review over at Martha Stewart's Wedding Site:

Review Jared Wilson Photography at WeddingWire

Martha tells me that getting reviewed will get me 5x more clicks than if I don't have reviews. She also tells me that her cookies=yummy and prison=bad.

Thanks so much!

Roadside Family Portraits by John Michael Cooper

B
ack in March I found myself gushing over the work of John Michael Cooper after day 3 at the anti-workshop. And more recently I've discovered that the 'zero package' I mentioned is on YouTube! (This is the only wedding photography I've seen that has brought me to tears... This video was shot with a 'still' camera people!!!)

Well recently John Michael Cooper and his wife, Dalisa, took their show on the road and made a stop here in Denver. JMC's new project can be found at Roadside Families. And my family was fortunate enough to be one of the initial families photographed by John Michael Cooper.

Here's my son:
