The anti-Workshop Day 2

Friday, March 14, 2008  -  Photography

Today was a blast!
We got rollin' right away with 13 brides/couples/models - splitting up into Thirteen groups and going out and about in Downtown Vegas for 2 1/2 hours with a shot list of creative photos to try and capture.
There were three in my group and Cara was our awesome model!

A Special Note to Brides (and grooms): You've hired me because you dig my style. In my experience, unless your Mom or your friends have checked out my work and you've discussed what you love about my work - then don't bring them along with you when it's time for the three of us to do some portraits. Mom's just don't seem to like some of my ideas... :)

By the way, that's not a texture. Just a nasty, nasty wall inside a parking garage. And in this next one Cara graciously crammed herself in a comfy little box filled with mirrors. Isn't she great!

I'm in love with this next one! My group - not so much. But that's what makes each of us unique as artists, we all see things our own way.

Note Part 2: Unless you explicitly tell me that it's fine with you - I won't ask you to get your dress dirty on your wedding day. That means I won't ask you to lay on a curb in a grungy parking garage like in the photo above, or have you sit here next to this nasty red shed - on your wedding day. But if you want photos like this I'd love to take the two of you out and about the day after your wedding, or when you return from your honeymoon, and get a little dirty!

Note Part 3: Mom's, and some sisters even, just don't get it sometimes. Not all of them mind you - some are great!! But I've asked Brides to sit on benches only to have Mom nearly refuse the idea because the bench might be a little dirty. And benches are made to sit on! I really don't want to put down the Moms out there - that's really not what I'm saying. I'm just trying to say - if you want this style, it takes some effort - AND - sometimes part of the effort is removing a few obstacles, or ignoring them.

Here's one most Mom's wouldn't like. Heck, a whole lot of people wouldn't like this one, but hey - I kinda dig it, and it's not like I'm going to bring this guy with me and put him in every photo. One random window washer shot per wedding will do it. :)

The rest of the day was great as well! I learned some crazy new things I'd never even heard of before and now I've got some money burnin' a hole in my pocket!

Here's Doug Boutwell, 1/4th of the teaching team. Doug created the Totally Rad Actions - and rumor has it that Volume 2 will be out shortly!

Can't wait to show you more!

PS. Please fill up the comment box with some mad props for Cara. She really was great! She's 18 years old, lives in California. She's not married. And she's Dalisa Cooper's (1/4th of the teaching team) sister. She already knows who she wants to shoot her wedding whenever the day comes - but I hope she'll change her mind. ;)
