Best of 2011 - The Wedding Moments http://www.jaredwilsonphotography.com/?postID=509&best-of-the-wedding-moments http://www.jaredwilsonphotography.com/?postID=509&best-of-the-wedding-moments Thu, 02 Feb 2012 11:35:00 GMT
From Shayna and Josh's Wedding in Tulum, Mexico
Imagine your wedding ceremony on a tropical Mexican beach. Barefoot. The sand between your toes. A view of the ocean as far as the eye can see... um. Well. Not exactly...

From Jessica and Landon's Wedding in Eureka Springs, Arkansas
A mother walks her son down the aisle. A proud moment. And when they reach the end, she hugs him 'Goodbye' and 'Congratulations' and, I'm sure, a million other words and feelings all within that hug... Meanwhile, a stepfather watches.

From Sara and Sean's Wedding at the Omni Interlocken Resort
Minutes, no, seconds before the walk to the ceremony, a Bride collects her thoughts... (Big props to Lauren, my 2nd photographer, for capturing this one while I was at the ceremony for details and the guests' arrival. Yet another reason to consider having two photographers on your wedding day!)

From Joana and Hans's Wedding at the Oxford Hotel
After portraits and formals at the Denver Courthouse we take a moment to pause before the next round of events - the ceremony. A strong breeze, a slight chill, and a bit of chivalry...

From Erin and Jonathan's Wedding at the Four Seasons Denver
It's a Jewish tradition - The Hora. Lift the Bride and Groom up on chairs, bounce them around, sing, dance, and celebrate. But when the music begins and the groom is nowhere to be found? Grab the Groom's dad and toss him in the air...

From Jaime and Brandon's Wedding in Estes Park
I frequently have conversations with couples who are debating whether or not to do a 'First Look' before the ceremony. When I ask them why they would lean towards waiting until the ceremony, surprisingly I've never heard anyone say 'tradition'. The answer has most commonly been something about seeing the look on the Groom's face.... Well, here's a 'First Look'. Sorry to stir the pot.

From Lahari and Ajaya's Wedding in Colorado
What are the markings of an 'Indian' wedding? What does it look like? What does it feel like? And how to communicate that in one photo?

From Kim and Jody's Wedding at the Westin Riverfront Resort in Beaver Creek
Double rainbow across the sky. Wedding Ceremony Perfection.

From Jailyn and Ben's Wedding at Cordillera
It's just a moment. A split second in time. And it's EVERYTHING. All encompassing. All of the joy and the sorrow. The growing up and grade school. The journey travelled to get to this one place on this day for this one split second...

From Jennesa and Art's Wedding at the Chatfield Botanic Gardens
It was the first dance. It was beside a barn. How's a photographer to capture it? To frame it? To tell the story of that moment?

From Julie and Mike's Wedding in New York City.
Right after the ceremony, a short limo ride to the reception in a torrential downpour. Hopping out of the limo, onto the sidewalk, and then through the revolving doors into the reception. I'm talking massive rain, knock-you-down winds... I waited just inside the door - for this...

From Lindsay and Matt's Wedding at Boettcher Mansion
All the boys sang 'You've lost that lovin' feeling'. Classic...

From Betsy and Craig's Wedding in Aspen
When I first started out as a photographer I would pose the couple, take the shots, and pose again, take the shots, etc. Every now and then something would happen between the shots and I would watch - just watch. Because that wasn't what we were doing. We were posing... Right? But I've grown with experience and learned that the moments between the poses are the important ones. The priceless treasures. And so now, I never stop shooting...

From Fran and Nick's Wedding at Arrowhead Country Club
I shoot a lot of detail shots throughout any given year. Some wedding planners and designers have told me that I'm their favorite photographer to work with because of my detail shots.... 99.9% of the time I take these detail shots in an empty room, in the 'down' time, in quiet - uncluttered... But this one is one of my favorites of the year. And it's because the silhouettes of the guests at the reception give it life. Details don't exist independently, they are a part of the celebration...

From Lindsay and John's Wedding at Cheyenne Mountain Country Club
As I said before... Never. Stop. Shooting. These moments come, and go, in an instant. But these tears of joy should be treasured forever...

From Julie and Darren's Wedding at the Omni Interlocken Resort
'First Look' isn't just for the Groom. It happens for everyone at a wedding. And it doesn't mean more to anyone than the Father of the Bride...

From Jennifer and John's Wedding at Crooked Willow Farms
There is always a moment of joy to be captured and treasured. And often, more than one. Which one sums it all up in a frame - a moment captured?

From Christy and David's Wedding in Estes Park
Another one of those 'in between' times where I've taught myself to keep. on. shooting.

From Karly and Brad's Wedding at the Seawell Grand Ballroom
Yet another 'First Look'. Not just for Groom's or Fathers of the Bride - but something the Bride herself can enjoy as well!

From Laura and Rob's Wedding in Beaver Creek
My favorite 'officiant' photo ever.

I just relived 20 weddings in 20 photos. It's been a good morning.

Each of these portraits are so special. I like to imagine that one day, years from now, a little girl or a little boy will be sitting on Grandma's lap and flipping through a book of old photographs. They'll stumble onto one of these, point to it with their tiny little finger, then look up and say 'You were so beautiful, Grandma'.

I know it's going to happen.

Thursday's Two-Cent Reviews - Audible.com http://www.jaredwilsonphotography.com/?postID=505&thursdays-two-cent-reviews-audible-com http://www.jaredwilsonphotography.com/?postID=505&thursdays-two-cent-reviews-audible-com Thu, 19 Jan 2012 08:00:00 GMT good book! It seems that there are hundreds and maybe even thousands of books published every week - so then, why is it so hard to find a good one?!

You know what I'm talking about, right? The 'page-turner'. The kind you can't put down. The kind you just can't stop thinking about. The kind of book that creates worlds you wish you could live in, and characters you wish you could spend real time with.

*sigh* I love those kinds of books.

At thanksgiving my family travelled to Oklahoma to spend the holiday with relatives. I got this idea to listen to an audiobook along the way. I had recently had a conversation with a fellow photographer friend and they had told me how they had been listening to lots of audiobooks - at 2x speed! While I wasn't so sure about listening to a person read me a book at the speed of light - I was curious. And so I perused iTunes and decided on The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern.

And you know what? I really, really enjoyed it. Compelling characters and a fully realized magical world brought this to book to life for me (the narrator helped bring it to life too!) The best word I can use to describe it would be 'dreamy', and I didn't want to wake up. Not that I was sleeping mind you - I was traveling down I-70 at approximately 80mph!

At Christmas we went on another road trip to Arkansas to spend the holiday with my Mom and Dad. I thought I'd get another book. Even more, I thought that I might really start to like these things and so I signed up for a 3 month trial membership at Audible. For my first book I downloaded 1Q84.

At nearly 47 hours, this thing's a monster. The narrators read so slowly that I was able to bump it up to double speed and still make sense of it. This cut some time off the book - but still, I managed to just get about 20 hours in and I think I've given up. It's not doing it for me. It's simply not a 'page-turner', even at double speed.

So, very soon I'll be able to download book 2 at audible. What should I get? Have you read anything good lately? Have you listened to anything good lately?

For many, the most memorable post involving them was this one where I explain how Jake beats me in everything EXCEPT, as it turns out, how long you can keep your head underwater in a freezing river!

This year we did some photos at Jake's parents' home in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. Happy times!

I told Kara that these photos are going to get outdated soon and we'll have to do some more here shortly!!

Miss Personality with a capital 'P'!!

Jake's parents own the Treehouse Cottages which is the #1 place to stay in Eureka Springs. Many others are trying to capitalize on the 'treehouse' name now but they've got the original and the best - if you're ever in the area for an overnight visit.

Can't wait to meet the new Baby Miller! And maybe find something else I can beat Jake at...
